We're setting sail! Our family of five is leaving our cozy home in Duxbury, MA to live aboard our Beneteau 461, Chere. We will start on board in January in Charleston, SC and make our way south to the Bahamas for the winter. We are home-schooling our three boys Nat (12), Ben (9) and Win (6) as we travel.

O Canada . . . .

A quick note to let everyone know that we arrived safe and sound in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia a few days ago, after a smooth crossing from Mistake Island, ME.  The harbor at Mistake was absolutely incredible -- thanks for the tip, Willy -- and we had a great time hiking around the lighthouse and cliffs; the boys and I also had some good pollack and cod fishing.  And our crossing over to Yarmouth was just about as flat a trip as is possible.  No wind at all, so we weren't able to sail.  But we saw more marine critters, and more different critters, than I think I've ever seen in one day:  Humpback, Fin, Minke and Pilot whales, Harbor Porpoise, Atlantic White Sided Dolphin, acres of Mola Mola, Bluefin Tuna, Swordfish!, Basking Shark, Seals, Gannet, Shearwater, Petrels, Puffin, etc., etc.

Yarmouth has been a fun visit, with some terrific museums covering the local fishing industry and history of the area.  A bit wet and chilly, but fun.  This morning we're heading off to Shelbourne for a night or two, and then we'll keep heading up toward Halifax.  We're still trying to work out our cell situation; our US phone is active, but not working very well, so our plan is to find a SIM card for our unlocked Bahamian phone.  We will post a new cell number if/when we get one.

Until then, our best to everyone back home.

Sam
